Online courses for teachers and schools
As someone who has worked closely with schools, teachers and children for many years, I understand how time consuming it is to continually keep up with the latest research in speech, language and literacy.
Kat Grinceri - Director Kat’s Speech Pathology & Senior Speech Pathologist
Online courses designed specifically for teachers
After years of presenting workshops on speech, language and literacy, Kat has consolidated her knowledge and expertise into an easily accessible portal with content that’s designed specifically for teachers just like you.
In Terms 2, 3 and 4 of this year we will be offering access to three brand new online courses!
Term 2 – Semantics and Vocabulary
Term 3 – Syntax and Grammar
Term 4 – Articulation
What’s in it for me?
These courses will be best suited for teachers in Kindergarten to Year 2 as well as education assistants or those providing intervention in the areas of vocabulary, grammar and reading across K - Year 6.
When you register for the course you’ll receive:
Access to bite-sized modules containing videos, materials, hands-on activities and lots, lots more.
Direct access to Kat Grinceri (Director of Kat’s Speech Pathology & Senior Speech Pathologist) via email for support.
Log-in details that give you access to the course for the whole term and the following school holiday period - giving you the opportunity to work through it at your own pace.
Don’t delay - the due date for registration for all courses is Monday 28th April (week 1 term 2).
You will receive an email when the course you have registered for is live and ready for you to access from week 1 of the relevant term.
Learning outcomes for each course:
Semantics and Vocabulary - Term 2
Once you’ve completed your online learning, you will be able to:
Have a greater understanding of what skills are involved in semantics and vocabulary
Understand the importance of vocabulary development
Have knowledge of what words to teach and how to teach them
Have a greater ‘kit’ of activities, strategies and resources to teach vocabulary and semantics
Syntax and Grammar - Term 3
Once you’ve completed your online learning, you will be able to:
Improve your knowledge of the basic terminology in relation to grammar/syntax
Have a greater understanding of the way grammar and syntax develops
Have a greater awareness of the key principles for how to teach grammar and syntax
Have a greater ‘kit’ of tools to use when teaching grammar and syntax
Articulation - Term 4
Once you’ve completed your online learning, you will be able to:
Improve your knowledge of the basic terminology in relation to articulation and articulation difficulties
Have improved awareness of what is expected in normal development of articulation
Improve your awareness of how sounds are produced in the mouth
Understand what strategies can be used in the classroom to improve articulation and when to refer
Why are these online courses, rather than in-person professional learning?
Here are just some of the many reasons…
Each person can access the course at a time that suits them, which works well for teachers since everyone has different non-teaching days/times available!
Provides the opportunity for year groups to complete (for example) a module at a time, then meet to discuss, before moving on to the next module.
Actually retain the information! It’s hard to focus and retain all the information when you have to sit through a full 2 hour or even full day workshop.
Administrators - no need to pay relief teachers to attend professional learning within school hours!
No need for you to stay after school to attend after school professional learning after school hours (when you are also tired and not likely to retain much)
You can go back and re-watch sections to help you understand and retain the information

Feedback from Kat’s previous teacher presentations…
-
"Your professional learning workshop was excellent. I believe it was exactly what we needed and the emphasis on blending and segmenting activities was great because that is what we are lacking. Thank you so much for the time and effort that you put into the presentation. It was clear, effective and engaging. I hope that now everyone is on the same page and is inspired to implement a really effective phonics program. Thank you!!!"
