School Holiday Group Programs

Kat’s Speech Pathology will be offering our very popular school holiday small group programs in the upcoming September school holiday period! A great way to occupy your children during school holidays while also improving their skills in a range of areas and providing an opportunity to participate in an intensive form of intervention. Appropriate for children with speech and language difficulties as well as for families of children with no difficulties but want to further their child’s social skills, language and/or literacy skills during the holiday period.

Groups to be run:

Phonics – Teach your child to read & spell with Sounds-Write, the gold standard of evidence based teaching:

We are fortunate enough to have therapists who are experienced in the evidence-based program “Sounds-Write” which is an evidence-based approach to phonics instruction with incredible results. This group will provide instruction using Sounds-Write lessons to improve your child’s ability to read and spell words. A great way to continue to build on what they are learning through the year in their literacy lessons.

Groups to be run:
Students who are in Pre-Primary this year: Tuesdays & Fridays 11:30-12:30
Students who are in Year 1 or Year 2 this year: Tuesdays & Fridays 2-3pm

LEGO therapy – build social skills while having fun!

This group is aimed at children between the ages of 6-12 years, who require support in developing their social skills. An evidence-based approach to teaching social skills and particularly effective for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder, however can be used for children without a diagnosis. This group is a lot of fun and allows children to build not only their social skills but also their language skills while having a great time with LEGO.

Groups to be run:
Children 6-10 years of age: Mondays & Thursdays 11:30-12:30pm
Children 9-12 years of age: Will run on request

The details:

These groups will run across both weeks of the holidays. Both groups will be run twice a week. The groups are one hour per session, and they will be run at our clinic in Mosman Park. Dates and times are listed above. If you would like to participate in a group, it is best if you can commit to all or most of the sessions given that each session will build upon the last and planning for the sessions will be done accordingly. Our usual cancellation policy will apply - cancellations with more than 24 hours notice will not incur a fee. Groups will consist of a minimum of 2 children and a maximum of 4 children. The cost is $100 per one hour session, with rebates available from your private health provider (if you have private health cover), or can be claimed through NDIS funding. The cost covers the duration of the session but also the time for planning and preparation. Activities for each group will be individualised based on the students participating and their individual needs, with some differentiation integrated into each session for each child.
